Longview
Home Renovation
Located on a quarter acre in West Asheville this 1954 bungalow’s newly-wed owners were ready to expand their new home. We did this by building an 875 square foot addition in way of a full master suite with bed, bath, walk in closet, kitchenette, and laundry room. Downstairs we added a studio with a separate entrance, full bath, and walk out patio. We also updated some original features of the house, like the powder room sun tube, and exterior paint.
Environmental Efficiency Features
• Solar | Our clients were invested in using green products and reducing their impact - which we are always excited about! To lower their footprint and save on energy bills we installed a full solar array on the new roof.
• Exterior Finishes | For a low maintenance and non-toxic finish we used Lifetime wood treatment instead of paint on the new cedar shingles. Lifetime naturally stains and finishes wood over time. It is safe to apply, easy to maintain, and (depending on the material applied to) creates a rich, natural, brown finish without the use of any toxic chemicals.
Custom Details
• Hardwood Flooring | With any addition there is always the challenge of balancing new design with original details. We took great care to blend to original red oak flooring with the new - which required multiple finishes but was worth it for the smooth transition from original to new!
• Windows | With 20 linear feet of windows, the master suite gets lots of natural light and has a wonderful view of the trees on the property. To maintain privacy without compromising the sunlight and scenery, we installed top-down bottom-up blinds for versatility.
